Coaching is about moving from the present to the future, attaining specific goals, creating personal fulfillment while learning and growing as you go through the process. In coaching we talk about “declare and fulfill”, which is where you decide what you want to create and we work together to promote the actualization of what you want. If there is confusion about what you want, then we process what is causing the confusion so you move into clarity. Coaching is about action, outcome, possibility and accountability.
As your coach I see you (my client) as whole and complete as you are. I stand with you as an equal and partner with you to create your vision and goals. It is my job to see the bigger picture, to speak what is so, as well as to challenge, invite and support you in taking action to manifest your goals.
Together we will also create structures that support the actualization of what you want to produce. These structures generally take the form of weekly practices that are pertinent to the issue you are currently processing. They serve to change the “habit” of how you have been doing something into a new habit that is more empowering and moves you forward. There are never any “shoulds” regarding these practices, and you are the one who usually generates these practices so they are meaningful to you. You go at your own pace.
As an ontological coach I am also very present to how you are in your relationship to self, to others, and to the circumstances in your life. Therefore, in coaching, we will also process that which is in the way of you moving forward, (eg. negative thoughts about yourself or others, distinguish the patterns that cause you to stall or stop, address communication styles, wellness issues, overwhelm patterns, and integrity issues, etc.)
Coaching is great for almost any situation, personal and professional, as long as the client is balanced and stable, and wants to move forward in their life. Coaching is not appropriate if the client is currently addicted to alcohol or drugs, is suicidal, or has severe anxiety and is unable to focus.
Because of how coaching is structured the general recommendation is that the client makes a three to four month commitment to allow the necessary time to identify the goals, set up the structures and allow time to process the issues that get in the way. Coaching is structured this way for your success.
As you know, we are all creatures of habit. Coaching is about learning, growing, change and transformation. This takes commitment, focus, repetition, time, and usually, support.
My request to my coaching clients is that you are motivated to move forward in your life, willing to be consistent to the best of your ability, able to take action on your behalf and available to be coached. If you can commit to this then I am confident you will see some real growth and change in you and in your life.
